Permafrost Crafting Guide: Tools, Furnace and Wire Recipes
Use real early-build Permafrost crafting requirements for Flint tools, Workbench, Stone Furnace, Copper Ingots, Wire and the Radio Station Bench.
Early crafting requirements (recorded Early Access build)
These are observed costs, not an unverified “every recipe” claim. Confirm each recipe in Inventory / Blueprints after a game update.
| Item or station | Observed ingredients | Used for |
|---|---|---|
| Campfire | 2 Stone | Heat (requires added Wood as fuel) |
| Workbench | 10 Wood | Access Flint-tier crafting |
| Flint Pickaxe | 2 Flint + 4 Wood | Break Copper / Coal resource nodes |
| Flint Axe | 2 Flint + 4 Wood | More efficient Wood gathering |
| Flint Shiv | 1 Flint + 2 Wood | Tool/knife interactions |
| Stone Furnace | 40 Stone | Smelt metals |
| Copper Ingot | 3 Copper + 5 Coal | Required to make Wire |
| Wire ×1 | 1 Copper Ingot | Build the radio component |
| Radio Station Bench | 3 Wire + 10 Wood | Finish the New Home radio task |
The recipe table follows the October 2026 recorded radio crafting route and Workbench data for build 0.44.2. The in-game recipe display wins if your patch differs.
The first tool dependency
- Learn the early Stone Pickaxe and Stone Axe during A New Beginning. These let you gather useful materials in the opening ravine.
- During Dog Days and New Home, collect Flint from the Bone Cave area when your journal leads you there. Use a Stone Pickaxe on appropriate boulders.
- Place a Workbench in a buildable area. The recorded Workbench costs 10 Wood.
- Craft a Flint Pickaxe first when Copper and Coal are blocking the next objectives. You need the better-tier mining tool before those deposits become useful.
How to make Wire for the Radio Station Bench
The actual progression is Flint Pickaxe → Copper and Coal → Stone Furnace → Copper Ingot → Wire → Radio Station Bench.
- Unlock the Stone Furnace through the Building Blueprint tree (U) once you have the required points.
- The recorded build uses 40 Stone to place the furnace.
- Mine Copper and Coal using a Flint Pickaxe. Use 3 Copper + 5 Coal to smelt one Copper Ingot.
- At the Workbench, craft one Wire using one Copper Ingot. The Radio Station Bench needs three Wire and ten Wood in this build.
- Place the Radio Station Bench where there is enough room and interact with it to advance the quest.

Why your recipe isn’t showing
Check your Blueprint unlock, your actual game version and which workstation owns the recipe. Hand-crafting in the inventory, using a Workbench and using a Furnace are different. A missing unlock is not necessarily a bug.
For where to place all these stations, see the New Home base-building walkthrough. For the route to the required zone, use the opening quest order and map locations.
