Buildable locations: leave Horizon first

The New Home sequence starts after the early dog rescue near Bone Cave. The captured route heads into the Woods, away from Horizon’s settlement. Horizon is a no-build zone on the independent world map, so a green placement preview elsewhere matters more than a visually attractive settlement lot.

How to use the Building Tool

  1. Press B to equip the Building Tool in recorded default bindings.
  2. Right-click to open the build menu. Select the structure category and desired piece.
  3. Aim at the intended ground; a valid placement preview turns green. R rotates parts and G cycles their variations in the recorded control layout.
  4. Build a roofed footprint that will actually fit your workstations. A Stone Furnace takes significantly more space than a small chest.

Starter shelter: recorded material reference

Build part Amount in starter example Observed cost each
Wooden Foundation 2 5 Wood
Wooden Wall 5 3 Wood
Wooden Doorway 1 3 Wood
Wooden Floor / roof 2 3 Wood
Wooden Door 1 2 Wood
Bed 1 5 Cloth + 5 Wood
Small Wooden Chest 1 2 Wood
Workbench 1 10 Wood
Stone Furnace 1 40 Stone

This is a recorded starter layout, not a guaranteed full-materials recipe for every patch. Material costs may rebalance. For the first build, follow the live New Home quest guide and reference screenshots.

Priorities once the walls are up

A bed sets your respawn location but should not be confused with manual save—use the save guide for the separate GAME tab’s SAVE GAME action. Put a chest within easy reach; it reduces time spent running around when you return from resource gathering.

Place a Workbench, craft a Flint Pickaxe and unlock the Stone Furnace. After collecting Copper and Coal, smelt Copper Ingots and make the three Wire necessary to finish the Radio Station Bench. This is where the crafting dependency table helps.

What to do after the first base

Build additional outposts only when they solve a specific problem: return distance, resource storage or exposure during long trips. Use the interactive map and fast-travel list to find natural hubs, and follow the main quest route for which location the game actually sends you to.
